Android Wear Smartwatch Apk: How to Sync Your Phone and Watch

Multi-APK allows developers to upload two different APKs of their apps to the Google Play console: one for smartphones and the other for Android Wear watches. This feature was so far only supported by Android Wear 2.0 running smartwatches. Two separate APKs will lead to a reduction in the size of the phone app APK as it will no longer include the Android Wear APK.

Google is making these changes so as to promote standalone Android Wear apps. This will help ensure that even iOS users who purchase and use an Android Wear smartwatch are able to fully enjoy the ecosystem of apps the platform offers.

The first time we heard of Samsung planning to go back to Wear OS-running smartwatches was back in 2018 when some company employees were spotted wearing watches with Google's operating system instead of Tizen. Yet the company stuck with its in-house operating system for all of its smartwatches since. Last month a reliable tipster claimed an Android Watch may finally be coming, and we later saw evidence backing those claims.

Now an APK teardown of the latest version of the Galaxy App wearable app suggests that Samsung's next-gen smartwatches will indeed run Google's Wear OS. The source has found a new plugin codenamed "water," which is believed to be a Wear OS compatibility layer. There's also a reference to "newos" and all this suggests Samsung's new smartwatches will come with Wear OS.

It's unclear at the moment whether Samsung will ditch Tizen in favor of Wear OS on its new smartwatches, or it will just come up with a new line of Wear OS-powered smartwatches while continuing to launch watches running Tizen.

Wear OS (also known simply as Wear[7] and formerly Android Wear) is a version of Google's Android operating system designed for smartwatches and other wearables.[8][9][10] By pairing with mobile phones running Android version 6.0 "Marshmallow" or newer, or iOS version 10.0 or newer with limited support from Google's pairing application,[11] Wear OS integrates Google Assistant[12] technology and mobile notifications into a smartwatch form factor.

In the first six months of availability, Canalys estimates that over 720,000 Android Wear smartwatches were shipped.[15] As of 15 March 2018[update], Wear OS had between 10 and 50 million application installations.[16] Wear OS was estimated to account for 10% of the smartwatch market in 2015.[17][needs update]

The platform was announced on March 18, 2014, along with the release of a developer preview. At the same time, companies such as Motorola, Samsung, LG, HTC and Asus were announced as partners.[18] On June 25, 2014, at Google I/O, the Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch were launched, along with further details about Android Wear. The LG G Watch is the first Android Wear smartwatch to be released and shipped.Motorola's Moto 360 was released on September 5, 2014.

On August 31, 2015, Google launched a Wear OS app for IOS version 8.2 or newer, allowing limited support for receiving iOS notifications on smartwatches running Wear OS.[28] As of September 2015[update], only the LG Watch Urbane and Huawei Watch are supported, but Google announced support for more smartwatch models.[11][29]

In January 2021, Google completed its acquisition of wearables manufacturer Fitbit; upon its announcement of the purchase in November 2019, Google's head of hardware Rick Osterloh stated that it would be "an opportunity to invest even more in Wear OS as well as introduce Made by Google wearable devices into the market."[34][35]

In May 2021 at Google I/O, Google announced a major update to the platform, internally known as Wear OS 3.0. It incorporates a new visual design inspired by Android 12, and Fitbit exercise tracking features. Google also announced a partnership with Samsung Electronics, who is collaborating with Google to unify its Tizen-based smartwatch platform with Wear OS, and has committed to using Wear OS on its future smartwatch products. The underlying codebase was also upgraded to Android 11.[36][37] Wear OS 3.0 will be available to Wear OS devices running Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100 system on chip, and will be an opt-in upgrade requiring a factory reset to install.[38]

If you've ever wanted to get the latest versions of legacy Android apps on your Samsung Galaxy smartwatch, sideloading apps from a third-party source is a good option. The feature has been available on Android devices for some time and you can now do it on smartwatches as well.

Easy Fire Tools is a free app that lets you install third-party apps on your Android TV and smartwatches, which aren't otherwise available on the Play Store. It's a great tool for those who want to get the most out of their devices by installing some amazing and useful Android apps.

On the blog, this information may look tedious, but once you take things in your hands, you can quickly wrap up everything. Once the watch faces installed on your smartwatch, you can choose them on your watch directly. You can also select them in your Android Wear app.

In recent weeks, Google deprecated the legacy Wear OS app install method for new phone-watch pairings. This means that buyers of new wearables or those that need to reset their devices might not see all the same apps as before. Developers would ideally update and modernize applications to fix this, but end users can still easily install and sideload those Wear OS apps.

In 2017, Android Wear 2.0 introduced the standalone app model and an on-watch Play Store. Google wanted smartwatch apps to no longer be bundled with or reliant on their phone counterparts (for communication) as part of making wearables more independent.

Google will launch two flagship smartwatches that include support for Android Pay mobile payments in the first quarter of 2017, Jeff Chang, product manager for Android Wear at Google, has told The Verge... More

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle []).push();According to GSM Arena, the app teardown was done by XDA-Developers and new strings in the beta version 22.32.12 build of the Google Play Services app revealed that the company is preparing to add support for backing up smartwatch data when switching to a new device.

Currently, when switching a Wear OS smartwatch to a new Android smartphone, users are required to factory reset the watch. Adding an option to back up the device would make it a much smoother experience. 2ff7e9595c
