Some of us have one, and some have the other. It seems they are not cross-compatible. Other than the latter supporting 4k graphics, what are the gameplay differences here? Do they have different story/DLC/map inclusions? Are they the same engine underneath?
We have merged The Conquerors and The Forgotten multiplayer lobbies into a single lobby for the first time ever. What this means is people who own DLC can host a DLC-enabled multiplayer game, and people with or without DLC can join and play in that game together! People without DLC in this situation will be able to choose from a limited civ pool that changes each day. It also includes one of the DLC civs that they can try out, too.
Thankfully, it couldn't be easier to use Age of Empires 2 cheats. While playing, simply hit Enter to show a text box, then type in the cheat code and press Enter again to activate it. The Age of Empires 2 cheat codes are not case sensitive, so as long as you use the correct spelling and spacing as shown in the list below then they will always work. Remember that if you're playing Age of Empires 2: HD Edition, using these cheats will disable most of the achievements in-game, so bear that in mind if awards are important to you.

Hey I have a problem: when I put ticks in the community fix boxes and then click play it askes me if I allow the program to change things and stuff. But when I click on yes it does not work because steam tells me the game is already running... any suggestions? I'd really like to use these fixes because these lags are driving me crazy :(. Hope my english was not to bad
You may have noticed, perhaps frustratedly so, that there is no option for adjusting game resolution in Age of Empires 2 HD settings. If you have a small screen, you may still be able to get a good experience playing this much-lauded HD version of the game, but given the generally larger screens that most gamers use today, the lack of a resolution setting is a real hurdle. There are, however, a few tricks that one can use to solve the problem.
Much of that reverence is justified, and what made Age of Empires 2 stand out at a time when there was no dearth of excellent real-time strategy games holds it in good stead 20 years on. Though its ambitions were similar to its predecessor's, the attempt to combine real-time strategy with city building and Sid Meir's Civilization was a lot more successful the second time around. It was also simply a better, richer strategy game.
Microsoft and developer Forgotten Empires have been clear about their intent to eschew big changes to the combat, citing feedback from the Age of Empires community. Even if that wasn't the case, changes to the core of the game aren't what you'd expect in the Definitive Edition, but in other places the alterations are surprisingly significant and meaningful, making the gaps more noticeable. When you've got flashy new 4K art everywhere, a reworked UI and more refined controls, the messiness and lack of clarity in fights can be a bit jarring.
