Positioning itself as a disruptor, realme strives to take the leap in improving the accessibility of cutting-edge technologies, of which none are currently hotter than 5G. In 2020, realme launched 14 sleek 5G devices, accounting for around 40% of all products. By next year, the company plans to increase its 5G offerings to over 20, upping the ratio to 70%. Its 5G phones currently range in price from around USD$150 to USD$600, making it one of the most competitive on the market. With low latency and ultra-fast data sharing making 5G the catalyst for AIoT, realme is also working to establish an ecosystem of AIoT devices, such as smart speakers, TVs, and headphones.
5G also will take some time to make its way into lower-end smartphones, particularly those for prepaid service plans. Those devices are likely to stick to 4G for the next few years, AT&T's Mansfield said, and customers who buy prepaid phones tend to hold onto them longer.
